I’ve been going eBay mad over the last week, getting rid of alot of things which I don’t really need and clearing the house of furniture so that I don’t have to pay for storage. I’m amazed at the kind of stuff that sells; some items which I would have thought people would want are simply left without bids, and items like an old Sega Saturn console sell with multiple bidders. I suppose that as the saying goes ‘one person’s junk is another person’s treasure’.
I’m slowly working my way through clearing out all the old paperwork, but it’s a bit tedious so I’m avoiding it really. I have managed to clear out alot but there’s plenty more to go!
I’m also just starting out looking into trading on the Foreign Exchange markets. I’ve made a few tentative trades, some I’ve made money on and others I have lost. I have a very strict set of trading rules so any losses are mitigated as far as possible and trades only entered when there are multiple signals indicating it is a good opportunity. Being cautious is always the best policy in these matters, a slow and progressive increase in capital rather than risking the whole lot on what is a pretty volatile market.
I’ve also been doing plenty of thinking about where I want to go traveling and am definitely going to do Central and South America only; I am planning to visit Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. I have a course in London in November so that only leaves me around 4 months to do these which doesn’t really sound enough but I need to plan approx. times and see how it pans out. If I miss the course I lose the money I’ve paid for it.
More soon.
I’ve been busy sorting through things for my house move over the past week between feeling a little ill with flu. Still no completion date organised however I’m sure it will be within the next couple of weeks, so had better get my arse in gear.
I’ve started to put some furniture on eBay so that I don’t have to store quite so much; all my pine furniture has now gone, plus a printer/fax/scanner, and the old VCR. I’ve still got a whole load of other items to list, it’s just that I don’t want to be without a sofa for too long.
I’ve decided to keep hold of the quality furniture like my french oak dining table and the antique pine bedroom furniture (unless my buyer is interested in it of course). I’ve been sorting through paperwork this morning and checking out as much as possible and shredding anything that needs to be.
My Dad came round yesterday to give me some advice on what to get rid of and what is probably worth keeping; he also kindly took a load of boxes to store at his place too. We agreed that he can store my old Mini for me in the short term as long as it isn’t for years! I’ve got a double garage full of parts, both old and new.
On a brighter note, I’ve been thinking more about where to go traveling and am sure Central and South America are for me, it’s just whether I do a Round The World ticket or just do them on their own. It all comes down to how long I go for, and I’m still undecided. Bit more thinking to do …
I can’t believe it’s been over two weeks since I wrote my last entry. I must be more focussed with updates. The last two weeks has been pretty hectic; I’ve been away to France and finished my job.
Last weekend I took a long weekend with some friends from work in a small place called Annat which is near Estaing in Southern France. We had a fantastic time, mostly enjoying the scenery and over indulging with the food and drink. Fortunately the weather was good to us and the gite we stayed in was wonderful. On the Friday we had brilliant sunshine all day and even managed to use the (rather cold) swimming pool.
The gite we stayed was called The Prestbytry which was situated in the lovely little village of Annat that literally had a handful of other houses. The gite can be seen here.
I took the trip with Claire, Ronnie, Jane, Martin, Stewie, and Andrew who made the trip a great laugh. We managed to have a couple of bbqs and enjoy the local plonk. Very relaxing and only a short trip to Rodez airport in France from Stansted in the UK. Highly recommended for a short break or even a longer trip.
Once I got back on Sunday it was back to work for my final week. Pretty hectic week as well. Lots of projects to hand over and paperwork to put in order. I had my leaving drinks on Thursday night down the local pub and really enjoyed myself. Getting up on Friday was somewhat of a challenge after not getting to bed until 2am! Fortunately Friday was fairly quiet and I went out to lunch with some work friends at Wagamamas which is great for noodles.
Now that I’ve come to the end of my time at work, I’ve had a change of plans and decided to go away travelling whilst I have the opportunity. I still need to think about where I want to go, but am more than likely going to buy a Round The World ticket and visit several continents. This week will be spent thinking about this … now that I’m a free man. I also have the small task of packing up the house now that it’s been sold. I expect completion will be within the next 3-4 weeks by which time I need to have sorted through all my stuff and sold some of the furniture. Anything that is worth me holding on to will go in storage or at my parents.
I have an old Austin Mini to find a home for too. I really do want to keep hold of it until I come back, however that may not be feasible.
Bye for now.
